Emma Nixon is a classically trained violinist who decided that she wanted to play Celtic fiddle after hearing a CD in 1999 by Scottish fiddler Alasdair Fraser. Since 2000 she has attended short courses and master classes with Alasdair Fraser, Liz Doherty, Nancy Kerr, Chris Duncan, Catherine Fraser, Hanneke Cassel, Catriona McDonald and Ian Fraser.
Emma performs regularly with Tony Vandermeer, one of Australia’s leading guitarists. They have played in concert series across the East Coast of Australia. They have recorded 2 CDs together (on MRA label).
Emma also performs in numerous small ensembles and the Brisbane Symphony Orchestra.
A strings teacher in Brisbane schools and with her own private teaching practice, Emma wanted to use her teaching experience to share her love of Celtic fiddle music with others in the community. She began the Brisbane Celtic Fiddle Club after playing with the Melbourne, Sydney and Adelaide Fiddle Clubs at the National Folk Festival.
